Buying a Business

A prospective buyer's initial phone call to Metro Business Brokers is usually to inquire about one of the listings seen on our web site or found in a local newspaper or real estate magazine ad. During our initial conversation, the representative will provide you some general information regarding the business. We are typically required by the owner to preserve the confidentiality of the details of his business and at this point we will normally not be able to give out details such as location, names and detailed financial data.

If, after this informal discussion about the business you would like more details, we will ask you to come into the office to give you more information on the buying process and help us to get a clearer understanding of your requirements and expectations. Metro Business Brokers maintains a complete file on each business including tax returns, leases, financials, equipment lists, etc. and prior to your review we will ask you to sign an agreement not to disclose this confidential information.

Once your level of interest has been determined, your Metro Business Brokers representative will set an appointment to tour the business and talk to the owner. At this time you can ask the seller any specific questions you may have about the business. This meeting is usually scheduled after business hours.

At this point you may be ready to proceed with an offer to purchase and your Metro Business Broker representative will review the process with you in detail.

After your initial call about the business, you may also find it to no longer be of interest because of price, location, etc., and occasionally some of the advertised properties have already been sold. If you are unfamiliar with how to purchase a business, we will be happy to outline the entire process and give you some guidelines on determining business value. Once you have established a relationship with a Metro Business Brokers representative, he or she will continue to work on your behalf and will notify you immediately when something interesting becomes available.
